The Inauguration of Papydos Café | A Report

The Inauguration of the 3rd Barista, Bakery and K-Cafe Course began with high mood on Thursday, 23rd January 2025 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the MCC-MRF Innovation Park premises.

The inauguration started with Prof. Arun Kumar Joseph, Associate DIP as the Emcee. The opening hymn marked the beginning of the inauguration. The opening prayer was conducted by Rev. Dr. C.E.S Ross, Chaplain.

The Special Guest of the day was Mr. Chang-nyun Kim, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea.

Dr. Surendran Purushothaman, Director SCE welcomed everyone and gave everyone a brief introduction to PapaDos’s MCC Cafe Startup. He included details about the origin of the name PapaDo which was fondly named after Dr. Do-Hyeong Lee.

After welcoming everyone, Dr. Do-Hyeong Lee, Coordinator, MCC-Hanshin Vocational Education Center outlined the course report for the 3rd Batch Barista, Bakery and KChef course that was collaborated with Madras Christian College, India and Hanshin University, Korea.

The duration of the course is from 20th January to 30th May which is roughly 18 weeks and 720 hours. The course will be for 8 weeks, and the Start-up incubation is 2 weeks.

The subjects that the course will focus on are Barista, Bakery, Korean chef, Food Safety, Business English, Co-operative, and Marketing Field Internship. The certificates that will be provided for this course are a Diploma, jointly by MCC India and HSU Korea, A Multi-Cuisine, by NSDC and Food safety, by FSSAI and FoSTAC.

The goal of this course is to have vocational education, acquisition of certificate and a start-up business or employment. The vision of this course is to foster food and beverage entrepreneurs.

The course report was followed by encouragement from Dr. P. Wilson, Principal and Secretary of MCC where he shared the experiences that he had with Dr. Do-Hyeong Lee and his many endeavors. He appreciated Dr. Do-Hyeong Lee for his ambitiousness and his hardworking quality in making PapaDos and the 3rd Batch course a success.

Mr. Kim Chang-Nyun, Chennai Consul General, Republic of Korea, gave his felicitations on the occasion, and wished well for the startup.

After the Inauguration, the opening ceremony of PapaDo’s commenced with Dr. DoHyeong Lee further covering the details of PapaDo’s business. The business is a partnership firm in MSME, Govt of India. The date on which the business was established is 14th December 2024. The future vision of PapaDo’s is to have a cooperative cafe in the brand of PapaDo’s. The partnership members were also introduced. The members were by 1st Batch of Barista and K-Chef course.

The members were Sentiyanger Longkumar, Chubasashi Aier, Easwaran D and Steila KT. The PapaDo’s MCC Cafe is sponsored by CSR Fund from J-Ark Logistics Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Sentiyanger conveyed his gratitude along with his other managing partners of PapaDo’s Cafe for the opportunity.

The commemorative plaque was delivered to Mr. Hwang, Jeong-Yong, the CEO of J-Ark by the Principal of Madras Christian College. Mr. Hwang, Jeong-Yong conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome and appreciation.

The congratulatory song was sung beautifully by the Chennai Korean Church Quartet which left everyone in awe. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Meera, Associate Director of SCE.

After the vote of thanks, the benediction was given by Rev. Dr. C.E.S. Ross, Chaplain who ended the ceremony with benevolence. During the fellowship, Dr. Do-Hyeong Lee was asked what made him want to start PapaDo’s MCC Cafe. He shared his views that his ideas were to start a vocational education, a course that also ensured the acquisition of a certificate and a start-up.

He also shared that his motive for the cafe was that it would be a way to connect people and businesses and that it would be a collaborative business. PapaDos’s MCC Cafe also had very lively baristas who were ever ready to serve the people who had come there. It is safe to say that PapaDo’s MCC Cafe is an instant success, and it has captured the hearts of all MCCians.
